LOCATING UNDERGROUND LINES
Not all electric lines are visible; in fact, some are buried underground. Before digging or beginning any construction project at your house or farm, please call DigTESS (Texas Excavation Safety System) at least two days prior to beginning the project – it’s the law. DigTESS will visit your site and mark any underground lines, even those that do not belong to Big Country Electric Cooperative, to prevent you from making a costly or deadly mistake. Also, please notify us at BCEC so that we are aware of such projects and can provide service accordingly.

MEDICAL PRIORITY
If you or anyone living in your household uses life-sustaining medical equipment, please contact any of our offices and let us know so that we can mark your account as a medical priority account. We do this so that in the event of an extended widespread power outage, your power restoration will be first priority. Please provide us with details as to what the medical condition is and what type of life sustaining equipment is in use, along with the amount of backup power you have available. We have a very limited number of portable generators available for residential use only. They are available on a first come-first served basis. You will also need to provide us with a medical certification from a physician stating that the equipment in use is life-sustaining. Medical priority status is not a guarantee that you will be provided with immediate power, as no one can make that guarantee. You should always be prepared to move to an alternate location in the event of an extended power outage.
